Error Opening File For Writing Steam

is their a fix for error opening writing file when using when on mac

so i have been trying to use the windows version of steam on my mac and i tried this using whine, teh first few times i was able to get steam to open but then after a few tries it said error opening file for writing, and all the fixes i found online were for windows, anyone know how to fix this

You need to provide actual information on your setup.

What version of wine are you using?
What macOS version are you running?
Did you install any winetricks?

i'm using version 5.0, stable

mac version 10.11.6

Strange you possibly corrupted your wineprefix,

Go into the prefix and navigate to /Program Files/Steam now move the directory "steamapps" some place safe like you desktop.

Then remove your wineprefix and make it it over, Install Steam again then copy your "steamapps" directly back into place, that will save you downloading all your games again at least.

but i still dont understand what you mean by make it over, is that get rid of everything in the folder

You should reply instead of making a new comment without your post or the person your asking won't get an alert.

Simply trash the .wine directory after you've moved the steamapps directory to a safe place, run wineboot to initialize a new wineprefix install steam then replace steamapps directory with the one you moved earlier that will save needing to re-download all your content again
